P&O Ferries' European Causeway and Highlander ships have each received a new food court, reception area, and toilet facilities.
We were recently commissioned by P&O Ferries to create upgraded design schemes for the reception areas, food courts, and toilet facilities of their Irish Sea vessels, the MV European Causeway and the MV European Highlander.
The brief was to modernise and brighten the onboard experience of these ships, whilst working to a tight budget. The aim of the upgrade is to extend these ships' lives for at least a further five years.
We agreed the layout of the new food court after an extensive review of potential configuration options. This incorporated increased seating capacity, high tables and stools with charging points, a dedicated queuing route, and generous walkway paths; all with hazard warning light strips.
New flooring, wall coverings, upholstery, and artwork were all specified to be consistent with P&O's brand guidelines. Onboard lighting was also upgraded, including new port-hole style wall lights which provide a lighter feel to the ferry interiors.
The reception area was redesigned to accommodate more seating; including a feature circular arrangement of semi-circular benches which adopted P&O's brand upholstery colours to inject colour and brightness into the area. New floor coverings, wall-wrap graphics, and a new main reception desk area were also installed.
The final area of upgrade was the on-board toilet facilities, which were re-furbished using more robust materials to increase longevity.
